Tim Higham, MD and owner of Higham Furniture, has entered to run the TCS London Marathon, which takes place on Sunday 21st April 2024. The owner of the Fulham-based independent bespoke kitchen design studio is raising money for the YMCA in England and Wales.
Entering the London Marathon for the first time this year, Higham took up running with his family during the pandemic. Having previously entered managed 10k events, he is in training to run the 26-mile course in under 5 hours 19.13 seconds. This is a personal target he has set himself to better the time that Tom Howley ran in the London Marathon in 2021.
His aim is to raise £1,500 for the YMCA. Both living and working in London, and as the father of two teenage boys, Higham has witnessed a sharp rise in youth homelessness since Covid. He wants to fundraise for the charity, which helps less fortunate young people to have a safe home, acceptance, guidance and access to real opportunities to give them a fresh start.
Higham, pictured, said: “I am looking forward to running in the TCS London Marathon in April to raise money for the YMCA. It’s a cause I care about and I am determined to hit my target, or raise even more for the charity. During my 20 years in the kitchens sector, I have had the pleasure of meeting Tom Howley on a few occasions at industry events. I have real respect for his eponymous business, which is on a different scale to mine. He doesn’t know it yet, but he is my inspiration for this challenge. When I read about Tom Howley running in the London Marathon in 2021, I was so impressed that I set myself a personal goal to try to better his time to the finishing line. This keeps me motivated when I am training, and I will certainly thank him the next time I see him.”
