You may know PWS as one of the largest distributors to the UK KBB industry, but did you also know that it is the home of one of our biggest work surface manufacturing facilities? We talk to James Archer, head of sales work surfaces, to find out what the company offers retailers and designers.
Q: Tell us about PWS's work surface offering – how much choice is there?
A: With over 200 stocked materials, our work surface collection offers an extensive choice of colours, textures, and finishes. From honed and polished to textured and concrete effects, each surface is crafted for durability and style. Available in multiple thickness options, our surfaces provide the perfect material solution for any space, whether it's a modern, minimalist kitchen or a more traditional setting. Our range includes premium quartz, granite, solid surface, and high-performance ceramic options, ensuring there’s a surface to suit every aesthetic and functional need. Additionally, we offer expert guidance to help clients select the ideal work surface for their project.
Q: How can retailers get to see the products?
A: PWS has 2 beautiful design centres, offering design inspiration at any time. Strategically located at Southern and Northern business hubs, these trade-only design centres provide the perfect platform for visitors to browse PWS’ abundance of stunning work surfaces up close and at their convenience. They're available to use as an extension of a customer’s own showroom, and PWS encourages visitors to bring their own clients to explore hundreds of samples, compare finishes, and experience the quality first hand. Our expert team is also on hand to offer product guidance, ensuring retailers and their customers make the best choices for their projects. Additionally, we provide digital resources and sample ordering for those who may not be able to visit in person.
Q: What about the manufacturing facilities? How safe are the processes?
A: PWS is committed to maintaining the highest safety standards, investing heavily in staff training to ensure best practices are followed in the production of engineered stone. Our industry-leading manufacturing facilities are equipped with advanced dust extraction and water suppression systems to minimise airborne particles, creating a safer working environment. As part of our commitment to employee safety, all staff are provided with full respiratory protective equipment (RPE) to ensure maximum protection while handling materials.
As a trusted manufacturer, we fully support and adhere to strict industry regulations, working closely with experts and the HSE to uphold and advance safety standards across the sector. Additionally, we continuously review and enhance our processes, ensuring our workforce operates in a safe, compliant, and well-monitored environment while delivering high-quality, precision-crafted worksurfaces.
Q: What if a client wants something tailored and unusual for their kitchen project?
A: We offer a fully bespoke service, working closely with our retail studios to accommodate unique project requirements. PWS Worksurfaces delivers the versatility needed to achieve the perfect finishing touch, whether it’s a custom-shaped worktop, an unusual material combination, or intricate edge detailing. Our expert team provides design guidance, technical support, and precision craftsmanship to bring even the most creative visions to life. With access to a wide range of premium materials, advanced fabrication techniques, and custom finishes, we can cater to even the most complex design specifications. Whether it's a floating island, recessed drainers, or integrated sinks, we are committed to turning bespoke concepts into reality with exceptional quality and attention to detail.
Q: How quickly can products be turned around?
A: PWS standard lead time from template to installation is 5 days, with more complex designs requiring 7 to 10 days. To ensure efficient diary planning, PWS requests a minimum of 2 weeks' notice when booking template appointments. However, turnaround times may vary depending on material availability, project complexity, and seasonal demand. For urgent projects, PWS will always strive to accommodate requests where possible, so early communication is encouraged to explore available options.
Q: Are there any new products being added to the portfolio?
A: Building on the success of our Strata brand, PWS has recently introduced Strata Ceramic – a new family of high-performance ceramic surfaces that complement our existing range of frontals and worksurfaces. Designed specifically for kitchen applications, Strata Ceramic combines precision craftsmanship with the timeless beauty of natural stone, offering an accessible price point ideal for both residential and commercial projects. The collection features 6 versatile finishes, ranging from subtle veining to bold stone patterns. Each surface captures the intricate texture, depth, and colour variations of real stone, allowing retailers to elevate their designs without the maintenance or costs associated with traditional stone surfaces.
Q: What support does PWS give retailers?
A: At PWS, we provide large material samples, each featuring a full slab image for accurate reference. We also offer our retail studios sample display stands, available in options to hold either 20 or 40 material samples. To help retailers create impact in their showrooms, we offer display discounts, allowing them to showcase the most relevant materials for their customer base. Additionally, our colour collection brochure includes large swatches and aspirational kitchen photography, designed to inspire and engage clients.
To further support retailers, we offer expert training sessions, marketing assets, and our On Line estimator tool is available 24/7 so if they need a price when our office is closed they don’t need to wait. Our dedicated account managers provide tailored advice, ensuring retailers have the knowledge and confidence to guide their customers effectively. Retailers also benefit from access to our state-of-the-art design centres, where they can bring clients to experience the full range of PWS work surfaces in person. With a focus on collaboration, we are committed to helping our retail partners grow their business with premium products and outstanding service.
