Futurist William Higham highlights three key current trends at Halcyon event
At an event at Halcyon, Wigmore Street on 16th October held by Aga, La Cornue and Novy, futurist and author William Higham presented a talk highlighting 3 key trends that will be shaping the kitchens of the future to kitchen retailers, designers, architects and press.
Discussing the needs for calm, convenience and community, he focused on how the home is becoming a cocoon, a place that feels stable in a time of volatility. At the heart of that is the kitchen, where comfort and connection come together. He added that improving, rather than moving is already a current trend, one where homeowners are rethinking the way they use their kitchens, not just for cooking, but for bringing people together. He also explained that consumers are no longer looking to purchase luxury items based on status or price, but for emotional wellbeing.
Following the talk, guests enjoyed cookery demonstrations and learned how Novy, Aga and La Cornue appliances fit with the trends. This included a presentation of the Novy Undercover Invisible Induction Hob, which is newly on display in the window at Halcyon. In addition, there was a demonstration of the Château by La Cornue, which is set within the cooking theatre at Halcyon, opposite the Aga eR7i range cooker in the latest Mustard colourway. A further cooking demonstration took place using the black glass Aga ERA, which is on display on the lower ground floor.
Jenny Nalborczyk, marketing manager – luxury channel at Aga Rangemaster, said: “We were delighted to welcome so many leading kitchen designers, architects and retail partners at our Future Kitchen event where futurist, William Higham gave us a fascinating insight into the wider trends that will shape tomorrow’s kitchen. We are also thrilled to have all 3 of our luxury channel brands on display at the Halcyon showroom and we extend our continued gratitude to Graham Robinson, showroom manager, and the team. For us, this is the first time that the Novy Undercover Invisible Induction Hob has been seen on Wigmore Street, alongside the luxurious Château by La Cornue and our latest AGA range cooker launches. It goes without saying that Halcyon is fantastic location for us – retail partners are welcome to visit with clients to view our appliances before they purchase, or to utilise the showroom as a training centre.”
