Matthew Shackleton of Creating Spaces on 2024's key kitchen requests

Having analysed the Creating Spaces Group's first-party data from kitchen enquiries over the last 12 months, sales director Matthew Shackleton shares the most popular elements and highlights growing trends when it comes to kitchen design.

At Creating Spaces, we offer a fully project managed service from start to finish, and our kitchen renovation process is designed to alleviate all the hassle that comes with a regular renovation. Our extensive showroom, in Halifax, Yorkshire, features complete kitchen settings of all sizes and styles, and shows many of our featured brands and appliances. The product ranges offered include kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms, windows and doors, conservatories and extensions, outdoor kitchens and pergolas, to provide a source of inspiration and guidance for customers embarking on their remodelling journey.

We understand that renovating a kitchen can be a daunting task for a homeowner – the mess, the logistics, the decisions, the timing, it can all add up to be a bit of a nightmare. But we’ve combed through our enquiries from the last 12 months to see which design elements and aspects are most common or growing in popularity.

Even split between modern and traditional styles
We’ve seen an even split between modern versus traditional styles when it comes to kitchen designs. Half of our enquiries preferred traditional cupboard styles and farmhouse-style sinks, whereas the other half chose more modern cabinets and undermount sink settings. This shows that no matter what your client's style, there are plenty of options on the market to suit their needs.

Jacobsen Taupe Grey and Light Teal

Matte overtakes gloss as most popular finish
When it comes to finishes, matte (rather than gloss) is more popular now. This shows that modern design is building momentum amongst a large portion of customers.

Zola Matte Slate Blue

Key shades are shifting
The most popular door colours are slowly changing from 'cashmere' to 'mussel'. In addition, light greys and green are becoming very popular colour choices for kitchens.

Green Aldana Taupe Grey and Reed Green

Brass handles are very popular
Brass is still a very popular choice for handles, and we’ve seen a mixture of cups, knobs and mixing handles when it comes to this hardware.

Internal storage is a must-have
The large majority of kitchens we do generally have internal storage or waste bins. These are great for convenient functionality whilst keeping the design as aesthetically pleasing as possible. In addition, appliances are mostly integrated (rather than freestanding), with Neff, Bosch, and Caple being the most common brands.

Zola Soft-Matte Graphite

'Convenience-first' tap upgrades are popular
90% of our enquiries will include a Quooker boiling hot tap now – this shows that more homeowners are proactively looking to implement more convenient appliances within their homes.

Tavola Hacienda Black and Zola Soft Matte Light Grey

Quartz worktops reign supreme
A large percentage (~80%) of the worktops we sell include quartz. The remainder is typically made up of solid wood (~10%), Dekton (~5%) and laminate (~5%).

Grey Ellesmere Dust Grey

Seeing the light
Lighting is a key aspect in any kitchen – most of our enquiries will utilise both pendant lighting for effect and under cabinet lighting for improved functionality.
