Grohe has announced that it is taking another step away from a linear production model towards a circular one, and is set to launch four products that have been Cradle to Cradle Certified.
The company says that in order to achieve this it has collaborated with design partners, while its research laboratory in Hemer, in Germany, also played a crucial part. Three taps – the BauEdge S-Size, Eurosmart S-Size and Eurosmart Kitchen, and the Tempesta shower rail set have now all been Cradle to Cradle Certified at the Gold level.
“Circularity is a long journey and we are at the very beginning”, said Thomas Fuhr, leader fittings LIXIL International and co-CEO Grohe AG. “I’m very proud that we have reached these outstanding results. Our three taps as well as our Tempesta shower set achieved Cradle to Cradle Certified Gold. The certification process is extremely demanding – it considers upstream manufacturing processes as well as internal production – but the gains are clear: a drastic reduction in the consumption of new resources. It is our obligation to drive a mindset shift in the industry. The Cradle to Cradle Certified Product Standard gives us a framework for looking differently at the life cycle of products, in a way that we see them as valuable stores of raw materials and to use only materials that do not harm people or the environment. This is the only way to ensure better living for future generations.”
