British handmade kitchen company Olive & Barr has announced the opening of its 4th showroom in the Regency town of Leamington Spa – we catch up with founder Al Bruce to hear how he went about it.

Q: Why did you choose this location for your new showroom?
A: Leamington Spa is a beautiful Regency town full of character and charm. We’re fortunate to have 2 of our staff members already living in the area, with a strong understanding of both the local market and its customers. Regent Street is an ideal location with high footfall, thriving businesses and restaurants – when a perfectly sized premises came up, we jumped at the chance!

Q: How long did the build process take, and did you encounter any obstacles along the way?
A: We were lucky not to encounter any major issues. The build took about 3 months in total. As soon as we officially opened the showroom to customers, we began renovating the basement, which will have a further kitchen display and office – we hope to have this completed in the next month.

Q: How did you decide on the styles of the displays and which products to showcase?
A: There are currently 4 displays, with more on the horizon. The front display is designed to deliver the ‘wow’ factor when customers enter, while highlighting the craftsmanship of a high-quality, handcrafted kitchen. The striking marble worktop and splashback, complemented by decorative marble corbels and a cooker hood, achieve this beautifully.

Towards the back of the showroom, customers can explore three different displays: a bar area, a corner larder, and a boot room, each showcasing the versatility of Shaker cabinetry. Soon, a kitchen garden display will join the space, and a further display in the basement.

Q: How are you planning to engage with potential customers in your area?
A: Now the showroom is up and running, we’re excited to be planning several in-store events throughout autumn and winter – so watch this space!

Q: Is there anything different about this showroom compared to other kitchen showrooms?
A: The obvious choice for a small showroom is to keep the design fairly pared back, but here, we did the opposite. We wanted to create a bold design that would inspire our customers. Rather than being faced with a very traditional kitchen and colour scheme, we wanted to showcase the level of design that can be achieved with handcrafted Shaker cabinetry, giving them the freedom to adjust to their style.

Q: What sets Olive & Barr apart?
A: My goal with Olive & Barr was to start a business that broke the mould and one that put the client first every step of the way – we aim to exceed their expectations. I am confident that Olive & Barr is the only handmade Shaker kitchen company in the UK today that can provide impeccably high-quality British craftsmanship at such good value. We keep overheads to a minimum, allowing us to pass on the savings we make to our customers.

Selling a kitchen is the easy bit, but ensuring a smooth journey for the customer is where most brands fall at the final hurdle. The kitchen is one of the last major elements in a homeowner's often stressful renovation. Our mantra is 'every customer should feel like the only customer' because we understand the importance of deadlines and the curveballs that have likely cropped up along the way. Our investment in our operational team sets us apart from the competition; we’re always the friendly voice at the end of the phone who is willing to go the extra mile.

The materials we use are excellent, and we pride ourselves on a high standard of craftsmanship, where we pour our hearts into even the smallest details. Whether it’s our bespoke kitchens, the quality of joinery, or our friendly and helpful team, we provide excellence at every step.
