Waterline calls in administrators after weeks of speculation
Following weeks of widespread industry speculation about the company's future, it has been confirmed that Waterline, the UK's largest kitchen furniture, appliance, sinks, taps and ancillary kitchen products supplier to independent retailers, has ceased trading. This follows the breakdown of attempts by the company, outlined in a statement by Waterline CEO Michael Marriott on 11th September, to secure financial investment after entering into 'late-stage, exclusive discussions with a third party'.
The KBSA has issued a statement addressing the loss to the KBB industry and offering support to those affected. In a post on LinkedIn, it said: "The news that Waterline has ceased trading brings real sadness across the KBB sector. While many were aware of the challenges faced in recent times, it is still deeply disappointing to see such a long-established name leave the industry. Our thoughts are with all the staff, suppliers, and customers affected during this difficult period."
It added: "At the KBSA, we are here to help support our members and the wider industry wherever we can. If you have been impacted or need guidance, please don't hesitate to reach out."
Established in 1985, Waterline was recognised as the UK’s largest supplier to the independent kitchen retail sector and in 2011, became part of the Crown Imperial Group. With a product portfolio comprising 34 of the best brands in kitchen furniture, appliances, sinks, taps, wirework and ancillary kitchen products, Waterline delivered nationwide with a distribution head office in Newport Pagnell, and depots in Bolton and Bristol. Waterline's sister company, kitchen furniture manufacturer Crown Imperial, remains fully operational and has been approached for comment.
