A fully working prototype of the 4Gen Kitchen, created by legendary designer Johnny Grey and expert in ageing Professor Peter Gore, has now been installed at Newcastle’s National Centre for Ageing.
The kitchen blends innovative design with cutting-edge technology to meet all needs across the life course, creating an aesthetically pleasing, flexible, sociable and safe environment for young children right through to older adults. It features flowing lines and curved corners, multiple rise-and-fall countertops, a smart ‘cooking anywhere’ induction surface, and hidden embedded appliance powering so there are no electrical leads.
The project, which began in 2017, is based around intensive user research – watch the video to see how, through beauty and functionality, the finished 4Gen Kitchen achieves flexibility for all the members of a multigenerational household.
