BMA announces crucial new chair appointments for 2023

The BMA has announced that its technical director, Andy McLean, has been appointed as chair of B/503 – Sanitary appliances by the Standards Policy and Strategy Committee at bsi.

On becoming chair, Andy said: “As a commitment to the development of standards, I am pleased to have put myself forward on our members’ behalf and continue the efforts to create representative and workable standards to improve product quality in our sector.”

This committee is responsible for developing and maintaining standards in the field of baths, showers, basins, bidets, urinals, WCs and kitchen sinks, and associated materials. B/503 provides the UK input to CEN/TC 163 Sanitary appliances and its working groups.

In addition, the BMA has welcomed Neil Robertson, technical manager at Roca UK, as the new chair for the BMA Sanitaryware Baths & Shower Enclosures Technical Committee. Neil has enjoyed a successful career, having begun in the construction industry working for an aluminium structural products company for commercial projects. He has also worked in the gas industry for several years for a company providing a service for installing and maintaining gas-operated systems.

In 2010, he entered the bathroom industry and joined Roca UK as aftersales manager. Following a few successful years in the role, he transitioned into the technical and quality sector for the UK whilst overseeing the Technical Service Team at Roca.

On his appointment, Neil said: “I intend to continue with the great work already done by all, with continued collaboration between BMA members and the association who have played a vital part in giving manufacturers of bathroom products a voice within the industry. Our shared objectives will be to continue to exchange thoughts and ideas from a technical and expert perspective, to help us steer and navigate through what is a progressive industry, with increasing demands on manufacturers concerning compliance, regulation, innovation and the ability to provide consumers with sustainable products for the marketplace.”
