Whirlpool UK sponsors Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival

Peterborough based Whirlpool UK Appliances, the home of Hotpoint, Indesit, Whirlpool and KitchenAid brands, has announced its sponsorship of the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival 2022.

Taking place on Saturday 11th June at the Peterborough Rowing Club, the festival will see approximately 40 teams compete in a dragon boat race on a 200-metre course. Each traditional and brightly coloured 30-ft dragon boat will be paddled by up to 10 people, plus one person sat at the back of each boat with a drum, beating the time for the rowers’ strokes. Several thousand spectators are expected to attend the event and the festival will also offer a range of bankside entertainment, family activities and food stalls.

The Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival, which is marking its 22nd anniversary this year, will be raising vital funds for the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, the only specialist palliative inpatient unit in the city. Whirlpool UK has supported the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice for a number of years. In addition to donating appliances, the company regularly takes part in fundraising activities to raise money for the charity.

Ian Moverley, public affairs director, Whirlpool UK, said: "We are delighted to be sponsoring the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival again this year, and we hope to help raise as much money as possible for the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice. The Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival is set to be a fantastic day out for our colleagues and their families and friends, and we are thrilled to be able to raise funds and increase awareness for an extremely worthy cause that is close to the hearts of many of our colleagues at Whirlpool UK.”
