Et Lorem begins journey to become net zero operation

Kitchen studio Et Lorem has announced a partnerhsip with sustainability expert, Eight Versa, to start the process of becoming a net zero operation. The retailer says that Eight Versa was recommended to help guide Et Lorem on a sustainability pathway to understand its impact on the environment and show how the team can reduce its carbon footprint. A key aspect of its mission is to verify each of the key milestones of decarbonisation with the Natural Carbon Solutions certification scheme, so it can showcase a credible and robust sustainability strategy.

Chris Hocknell, director at Eight Versa, said: “The first part of the journey to understanding a company’s carbon footprint is to undertake a baseline measurement. Eight Versa and Et Lorem have worked closely to define a carbon emissions boundary to understand exactly all the sources of carbon emissions to which Et Lorem are associated with. Exercises such as this ensure carbon footprint measurements are transparent; and companies are therefore accountable so certification requirements can be met.”

He continued: “Once a carbon emissions boundary is defined, the data collection begins. This involves data ranging from building energy usage to all employee commuting patterns. Once collected, the data is then allocated into three scopes – scope 1, 2 & 3. This is in accordance with the GHG Protocol, the world’s most widely used greenhouse gas accounting standard. Et Lorem is currently in the data collection phase for the 2022 reporting period. Once all the relevant data has been collected, Eight Versa will use in-house calculator tools to measure the carbon footprint of each emission source. This will mean that Et Lorem will have completed the first step to decarbonisation and are applicable to be certified as ‘Carbon Measured’ with Natural Carbon Solutions.”

Managing director of Et Lorem, Jamie Harding, said: “We are so excited to be on this journey with Eight Versa to bring Et Lorem to the sustainability level we know we can achieve. As we all know, it is not an overnight task so we will be keeping our customers and suppliers updated as we go. Our team is so passionate about being a sustainable company so this is a natural step for us.”
