Bathroom focus – 10 inspiring feature walls for a truly unique design

A feature wall is the perfect way to take a bathroom scheme to the next level and an ideal opportunity to get really creative – we round up 10 incredible designs that make a statement, add depth and pack a space with personality.

1. This exquisite bath panel, which was mined in Brazil for stone specialists Cullifords, is in fact a tall slab of Azul Imperial quartzite featuring an exotic swirling pattern full of movement and colour. Blue, grey, turquoise and orange linear variations create a centrepiece as striking as a work of art, and the non-porous nature of the stone is said to make it suitable for bathroom appications.

2. This stunning wall in an otherwise neutral design by Ripples features patterned Aztec-style tiles in Grey, Black and White, and acts as a perfect backdrop to the statement freestanding bath. It minimises the impact of the bathroom window above it, and also appears to make the wall recede, creating an illusion that the room is larger than it actually is.

3. The Oriental wall panel from Showerwall is said to celebrate iconic oriental wallpapers, and features a vibrant design with orange blossoms, flowering trees and exotic birds. Completely waterproof with a smooth glass-like finish, it can fit directly over tiles and comes in sizes of 2400 x 1200mm and 2400 x 896mm. With fast and easy installation, it also comes with a 30-year waranty.

4. The rich deep reds, oranges, browns and blacks in this slab of Juparana Bordeaux granite from Cullifords make it the perfect candidate for a bathroom feature wall, as does the fact that the company says it is scratch resistant and easy to maintain. Full of warm tones that blend with other natural materials and finishes in the scheme, it's for clients after a bold but tasteful look.

5. This feature wall of National Trust botanical porcelain tiles behind the rimless wall-hung WC has plenty of built-in recessed shelving with backlighting to provide a relaxed feel in the evening. The hexagonal tiles in the design by Ripples bring a sense of the outside in as they depict a random mix of leaves, ferns, flowers and petals with a soothing green and pink palette that complements the rest of the scheme perfectly.

6. Marble feature walls are a huge bathroom trend, and extremely effective when it comes to creating a luxe feel. Here dramatic Calacatta Marble with rich blue/grey veining from Lapicida is bookmatched behind a freestanding bath, which is then repeated and reflected on the opposite wall. It can also be quartermatched for an even more dynamic effect.

7. Here Roma Blue Quartzite, which offers a smoky blue effect with veining in blue, black and brown, is bookmatched behind a freestanding tub to create a focal point in the space. The rest of the walls pick up the golden highlights in the stone, which is quarried in Brazil and distributed by Cullifords.

8. This wall with Cala Neo tiles by Bestile, Tile of Spain, acts as an elegant screen separating zones in the bathroom. Cala Neo tiles measure 75 x 300mm and are placed here in a random laying pattern for maximum effect, while co-ordinating marble-look Cala Light tiles measuring 600 x 1200mm are used on the floor.

9. Metamorfosi from RAK Ceramics is a large slab-format porcelain tile inspired by nature that creates a real 'wow'. Featuring decorative geometric and floral patterns, plus lush tropical leaves, it is hardwearing and easy to care for. Available in 9 colours and 11 decors, it is part of the Signature Collection, with the tiles available in two sizes – 1200 x 2600mm and 1200 x 1200mm.

10. The feature wall in this design by Ripples brings additional drama to a stark monochrome scheme. The marble wall tiles with their bold veining add movement in spite of the restricted black-and-white palette, and create a real impact, while co-ordinating with the dark furniture, brassware and fittings.
