We talk to Tomas Hinton of Hampstead-based Tomas Kitchen Living to find out how the London team created an elegant yet modern scheme that was the perfect kitchen design for a busy young family.
When Tomas Hinton, designer and founder of Tomas Kitchen Living, and his London team took on a project in the heart of Greenwich for a young family living in a period property, they set about coming up with a modern kitchen space that would seamlessly blend functionality with elegance.
This collaboration resulted in a kitchen that exceeded the client’s expectations, becoming the epitome of sophisticated family living, with Caesarstone’s 4141 Misty Carrera at its centre.
The client brief was clear: the family were after a space that would serve as the hub of their home, accommodating various activities, from cooking and entertaining to family gatherings and even occasional home office tasks. With young children in the mix, durability and practicality were paramount, but style was not to be compromised.
Tomas rose to the challenge, crafting a design that incorporated the natural flow of light, accentuating architectural features and maximising the high ceilings. The choice of Caesarstone’s 4141 Misty Carrera as the surface was partly dictated by the bold cabinetry colour, Poppyfield Dark Blue (an original Tomas shade) and Ash doors. 4141 Misty Carrera exuded a timeless elegance, providing a calm and neutral balance to the vibrant hues of the space.
Caesarstone’s durability makes it the perfect choice for high-traffic areas like the kitchen, ensuring longevity without compromising on aesthetics. Its non-porous nature resists stains, scratches, and heat, making it ideal for the demands of a busy family kitchen.
In addition, hardworking storage was key with the island boasting deep drawers and the wall units including a spacious larder for kitchen essentials.
Tomas’s signature handleless SHEER style lends a soft feel to the space, creating an inviting atmosphere. The rectangular island features a distinctive Soft Square Corner detail and the strikingly beautiful Poppyfield Dark Blue is contrasted with Haven Cool Grey, natural wood, and aluminium trims.
The use of curves and rounded edge profiles on the worktop added tactile charm, striking a perfect balance between contemporary and classic. This balance is crucial in harmonising the kitchen with the traditional architecture of the period house, ensuring that the new design complements and enhances the home's original character.
The end result is a kitchen that transcends trends, seamlessly blending style with functionality to create a space that the entire family can enjoy for years to come.
