Adagio and Osso & Bottone, Ronan Bouroullec’s latest designs for Mutina, have launched exclusively with Domus in the UK. Both designs are said to showcase Bouroullec’s subtle and sophisticated approach to ceramics.
Bouroullec has been working with Mutina for over a decade, starting with the company in 2011, and designing 8 collections to date. The two share a passion to push the boundaries of ceramic design.
Adagio is a double-fired white body ceramic, hand-finished tile with a high-gloss glaze that covers all visible sides of the piece. It is available in one size, in 5 single options – White, Grey, Red, Blue, and Green – or dual-colour combinations of those shades. Measuring 30 x 2.7cm with a thickness 11–28mm, it consists of a single 3d linear module that is assembled into a ‘scenic wall sculpture’. It is an inspirational project, thanks to the 30 x 2.7cm format that gives the compositions an elegant, delicate artwork appearance.
Osso (bone) & Bottone (button), is the first Mutina collection designed with outdoor in mind yet also ideally suited to indoor use. By involving the role of grout in his designs Bouroullec has created an interplay of coloured geometrics that make the composition dynamic.
With a thickness of 10mm, Osso & Bottone tiles are made of unglazed porcelain stoneware. The coloured full-body mixture is available in a palette of 5 colours which are hues obtained from a delicate mix of coloured clay: Sand, Blue, Green, Red and Grey. Osso measures 23.1 x 7.5cm and 27.5 x 3cm, while Bottone measures 23.1 x 7.5cm and 27.5 x 3cm.
