Kitchen focus: Harvey Jones experts share how to create timeless kitchen designs
We've chatted to 2 designers at luxury kitchen brand Harvey Jones to get their scoop on the design elements they're creating for their clients right now to create spaces that will stand the test of time.
Lewis Buckley and Rachel Davis, designers at luxury kitchen brand Harvey Jones, have delved into the elements they believe currently lead the way in kitchen spaces.

Slim-Shaker cabinetry
Rachel says: “Slim Shaker cabinetry or micro Shakers are a modern take on traditional Shaker design with typically a one-to-two-inch frame. This is a really versatile design that strikes the perfect balance between classic and contemporary with clean lines and subtle detail. Narrow Shakers can be paired with complimentary designs like handleless cabinetry for more interest. Practicality wise, slim Shakers tend to be easier to clean with fewer frame details making it a great choice for busy homes. We saw this design choice really build momentum this year and we expect it to continue – especially in period properties.”

Earthy neutrals
Lewis says: “After a surge in bolder colour schemes, earthy tones are becoming the new neutrals. Mushroom browns, clay taupes and sage greens are increasingly popular with our clients as they bridge the gap between cold neutrals and dark coffee colours. Warm neutrals help create a calm, inviting kitchen and work for both small and large rooms.
“They demonstrate a considered and timeless approach to colour and will add depth beautifully to Pantone’s Colour of the Year, ‘Cloud Dancer.’ Elevate these grounded tones with innovative Slim Shaker cabinetry and brass handles to create a sophisticated design that feels both modern and enduring.”
Natural oak cabinetry
Lewis explains: “Natural oak cabinetry has been a popular choice for my clients this year as we see more homeowners opting for natural materials that can be paired easily with other design elements. Particularly whitewashed ash which provides contemporary character while highlighting craftsmanship quality. The versatility of wood means cabinetry in this material can be really striking on its own paired with a white-toned stone worktop; or alternatively matched in a duo-toned kitchen with complimentary mushroom colours. Incorporating fluted glass-fronted cabinets and brushed brass handles add further tactility and layering that elevates the hand-crafted feel of the kitchen.”
Matte finishes
Rachel Davis, designer at Harvey Jones says: “Moving away from glossy textures, matte finishes are going to be big in the coming year. Matte stone worktops add luxurious quality to kitchens with tactility that makes you want to run your hand along the edge. Their glare-free finish makes them a popular choice for contemporary design. These provide fantastic durability for busy kitchens and modern family living, hiding fingerprints and scratches. In 2026 we’ll see matte worktops with warm earthy colourways, brushed metal or nickel handles and marble splashbacks for subtle contrasts.”
Calacatta marble worktops
Rachel explains: “Calacatta marble is defining the shift towards more expressive kitchens, as design moves away from minimalism in favour of richer, more characterful materials that make an impact. With every slab entirely unique, my clients are embracing the artistry and individuality Calacatta brings. Its dramatic veining looks beautiful on statement islands while its reflective surface enhances natural light, making kitchens feel brighter and more spacious. Used as a statement island, a generous run of worktop or a splashback, it draws attention without overwhelming. Soft, muted cabinetry allows the marble to remain the focal point, or deeper tones like burgundy and dark greens create a sense of depth.”
