The versatility of Statuario Oro can be seen to striking effect in a recent kitchen renovation in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.

The approximately 7m x 6.5m kitchen and living space was designed to combine the character of its rural setting with a clean, contemporary finish. Solid wood cabinetry sits alongside a restored stone fireplace and log burner, with Statuario Oro providing a fresh contrast and helping to bring the two sides of the scheme together.

At the centre of the room is a generous island, with the CRL Stone surface fabricated and installed by LM Stone Creative. Its scale makes the distinctive veining of Statuario Oro a key feature of the finished design.

A surface made to be seen
Choosing the right surface for such a substantial island was important to the homeowners, who visited CRL Stone to see the quartz in full-size slabs before making their final selection.

“We loved the veins going through the worktop and the clean feel,” says the homeowner. “Being able to go into CRL to look at all the quartz in full size was really useful, as it is a big island.”

Designed to provide plenty of preparation space while creating a sociable hub for entertaining, the island needed to be as practical as it was visually impressive.

Specialist fabrication, seamless results
The project also presented an installation challenge. Due to the property’s upside-down layout, the large quartz surface had to be taken upstairs and manoeuvred around a corner. A join was initially considered, but LM Stone Creative was able to achieve the uninterrupted finish the homeowners wanted.

The result is a surface that gives the traditional property a distinctly contemporary edge. As the homeowner concludes: “The island is a showstopper.”
