Wren Kitchens & Bedrooms has acquired Moores Furniture Group after the company entered administration. Administrators James Clark and Will Wright of Interpath were appointed to Moores Furniture Group Limited and then immediately afterwards concluded the sale to Wren Trade Kitchens Limited, a subsidiary of Wren Kitchens.

While 336 staff have been retained for the time being to help complete work in progress and reduce disruption to customers, administrators have confirmed that approximately 124 employees have been made redundant. Those affected are being supported by the administrators and advised on how to make claims through the Redundancy Payments Service.

Moores was founded in 1947 when George Moore used £45 he had saved to start his own joinery business, G A Moore Joinery, out of a second hand hen hut in Bingley, West Yorkshire. The company joined Masco Corporation – a global leader of manufacturing for the new home construction market – in 1996. In 2017 Moores Furniture Group management team led a management buy out that was backed by investment company, Hilco Capital. Another management buyout in September last year saw Hilco Capital sell its stake back to management for £1.

According to its most recent accounts made up to December 2024, Moores employed around 500 people. Administrators said the business had faced rising input costs and low levels of housebuilding activity, despite efforts to reduce costs and grow market share.

In a statement to the press, Wren Contract Kitchens said: "Whilst the company was a competitor of ours, we believe it is in everyone’s interests to have a strong kitchen industry based here in the UK."

It added: "Due to the unique way Wren manufacture, we will also be able to assist customers by supplying cabinets and doors in the bespoke sizes which Moores had been supplying to the market, we envisage this will help housebuilders and public sector landlords with any warranty issues they or their customers may have been having or may need to resolve in the future.

"Wren’s Contract division had recently committed to a sales office in Harrogate, and we have agreed with the administrator that we will engage immediately with Moores management team to see if there are opportunities to provide alternative employment to a significant number of Moores sales, operations and internal support teams."

Wren is one of the largest kitchen manufacturers in Europe and with over 3million sq ft of manufacturing capacity in the UK, it delivers over 3,000 kitchens and bedrooms every week to homes across the UK.
