Helen and Phil Lord of Rehome feature on BBC1's Dragons' Den
Rehome, the UK marketplace for preloved and ex-display kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms, featured on Dragons’ Den on BBC One on Thursday 5th March (the programme is now available to watch on BBC iPlayer.)
Their appearance on the programme brought the concept of resale kitchens to a mainstream audience, making it easier for homeowners to understand that a quality existing kitchen may still hold value. For retailers, that matters because resale value can be the difference between a customer browsing and a customer buying, especially when budgets are tight.
Much like part-exchanging a car, Rehome enables homeowners to sell their existing interiors when buying new. Through Rehome Plus, partner KBB showrooms can offer customers a clear route to resale, helping them unlock buying power for their next project.
During the programme, founders Helen and Phil Lord faced questions from Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden, Touker Suleyman, Steven Bartlett and guest Dragon Susie Ma about consumer behaviour, logistics and what it would take to scale a new way of renovating.
Helen Lord, co-founder of Rehome, said: “We went on the programme to take the resale kitchen conversation to a national audience. In practice, the question of what happens to the old kitchen can slow a decision. Dragons’ Den reaches millions of viewers, and we expect that visibility will drive more interest in resale value and ex-display kitchens. We’re ready to support retailers who want to list ex-display and surplus stock promptly as interest grows.”
As well as unlocking customer spending power, resale also supports a more sustainable approach to home improvement. The interiors industry generates 1.6 million tonnes of bulky waste each year in the UK, much of it still reusable.
