Fabian Freytag designs a unique tap in collaboration with Dornbracht
Fabian Freytag has brought his own vision of a tap to life in collaboration with Dornbracht Atelier. The renowned architect has combined exclusive materials such as amethyst, opal, and reddish marble to create a unique composition.
Featuring vibrant colours and unusual combinations of materials, Freytag’s work is characterised by theatrical extravagance. Various elements come together in his tap design to form a playful, expressive whole. “The main inspiration for the tap was a trip to the Canary Islands,” said Freytag, explaining his approach. “There, I was particularly struck by how the colourful, Mediterranean architecture climbed up the hills. The stacked houses, with their rich colours and shapes, formed the original idea for the design.”
A strikingly curved spout now emerges from a cube of rhodochrosite, with the earthy red powder coating harmonising with the pink-hued natural stone. The handles combine several different stone geometries: on the left is a cylindrical piece of Rosso Alicante – a reddish marble – arranged with green and black marble. On the right is a spherical element made of amethyst, beneath which lies a base of blue quartz and a narrow plinth of Crema Valencia, a beige-coloured natural stone.
The tap was crafted through intricate handcrafting at Dornbracht's factory in Iserlohn, with the stones being worked by the gemstone jewellery workshop Pauly Carvings in Idar-Oberstein, Germany.
