The cloakroom may be the most compact room in the house, but that doesn’t mean that it has to be short on style. If your client is keen to go all out on a signature washroom, the latest bijou basins come in all shapes and colours, and offer plenty of creative potential, says Emma Hedges.
1. Tondo Plus from Glass Design measures just 465 x 375 x 890mm, and comprises a painted stainless steel stand in a choice of black, old brass or white with an accompanying basin in a choice of matt black, matt white, pastels or silver or gold-leaf, shown here. The stand is shaped to accommodate a towel rail each side as well as a shelf underneath the basin.
2. The Ferla ribbed basin is part of Ca’ Pietra’s recent collaboration with British designers Elle + James. The hexagonal basins come in five sizes, with the smallest measuring a diminutive 380 x 330 x 115mm. There are 22 colours available, ranging from Lavender Pink through to Sicilian Orange – pictured here is Ionian Blue.
3. The new Ruy Ohtake countertop basin from Roca is created by the designer of the same name, and features a curved shape and ultra-thin edges. It comes in two different designs and in six colours, including Matt White, pictured, White, Pearl, Onyx, Beige and Coffee. It is shown here with the Savana countertop, which provides a minimalist alternative to a vanity unit.
4. The Edwardian cloakroom basin from Burlington comes in White and Jet, pictured, as well as bespoke colours such as Alaska Blue. It features an overflow and two tapholes for a pair of single-lever monobloc taps to evoke a traditional feel. Measuring 51cm wide, it is also available with a corresponding basin washstand for added impact.
5. The latest addition to Laufen’s Val collection is made from the company’s SaphirKeramik material and designed by Konstantin Grcic. With fine walls and slender edge radii, the washbasins take up little space, but still offer a deceptively generous sized bowl, and feature an integrated towel rail, or toilet-roll holder, as shown here.
6. The Elm Mini from Kast Concrete Basins measures 450mm wide, and features an integrated splashback. It is designed for use with a wall-mounted tap and is compatible with all standard wastes. With a distinctive pinstripe surface pattern and elegant curved corners, it is available in 28 colours from neutrals through to vibrant bolds – pictured here is Ember.
7. The Citterio countertop basin is part of a collection designed for Geberit by Antonio Citterio, and features an eye-catching, asymmetrical organic shape. It is designed with a specially developed waste cover and without an overflow, and sealed with the company’s KeraTect ceramic glaze which is said to be hygienic, durable and easy to clean.
8. The RAK-Petit wall-hung basin from RAK Ceramics designed by Giuseppe Maurizio Scutellà can be chosen with either a round or square basin shape, combined with a ceramic ledge, providing an easy to wipe clean surface for soaps. Measuring 765mm x 360mm, it can also be combined with a RAK-Joy vanity unit for handy cloakroom storage.
9. The Radford from Victoria + Albert Baths is an oval countertop washbasin with subtle rim detailing measuring 510 x 395 x 115mm. Made from the company’s Quarrycast material, it is designed to be combined with wall-mounted or freestanding pillar taps, and can be customised from a dazzling array of 199 RAL colours.
10. The Bourne cloakroom washbasin from Drummonds measures just 450mm wide, so is perfectly suited to compact schemes, and is made from hand-poured china to ensure that each piece has its own character. It comes supplied with or without brackets, and is available with a choice of nickel, chrome or brass fittings that can be matched with brassware for a co-ordinated look.
