Joint administrators appointed to John Lewis of Hungerford
Andreas Arakapiotis and Simon Wall of bk plus were appointed joint administrators of John Lewis of Hungerford on 7th July 2026.
The bespoke kitchen, bedroom and fitted furniture manufacturer was founded in 1972 in Hungerford, Berkshire by John Lewis. In the mid 1970s Lewis signed the lease to open a showroom on Hungerford High Street. A larger workshop in Oxfordshire followed and in 1983 the company introduced its first Shaker collection. At its peak, John Lewis of Hungerford had over 10 showrooms located mainly across London and southern England.
In a statement, bk plus said: “Unfortunately, given rise in costs of manufacturing and the continued cost of living crisis, trading conditions remain very tough and margins continued to be eroded. Following a sales process, parts of the business were sold via a pre-packaged administration sale safeguarding 22 jobs."
The sale took place on 7th July and bk plus have confirmed that the buyer was Rebecca Taylor Associates Limited, a company owned by the director of John Lewis of Hungerford Limited. 21 people have been made redundant.
The statement continued: “The Joint Administrators are working with their appointed agents to maximise realisations in respect of the remaining assets for the benefit of creditors.”
Prior to the sale, John Lewis of Hungerford had three showrooms with its flagship store located in Fulham, West London.
