Jon Johnston: There's so much happening at KBB – see you there!

The countdown to kbb Birmingham has started in earnest – here the show's sales director, Jon Johnston, reveals what's in store and why he believes there's nothing quite like doing business face-to-face.

After months of planning, kbb Birmingham, Europe’s largest dedicated kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms exhibition, is about to open its doors again – taking place from 6th - 9th March 2022. It has been two years since the last kbb Birmingham show and, for many within the industry, it was the last time they met at a face-to-face event. There is nothing quite like meeting with people in person, networking with new and old friends and colleagues and getting hands-on with the latest products.

kbb Birmingham 2022 will see a lively show floor, packed with special features. Our exhibitors have a whole host of activities planned for their stands, including product demos, masterclasses and special guest appearances. The event will provide thousands of visitors with the inspiration and product innovations they need to take them into the year ahead. It promises to be a key meeting place for specifiers and designers to learn about emerging trends and cutting-edge new products in the KBB sector.

We’re also excited to unveil the winners of our much-anticipated Innovation Awards. Our 10 successful shortlisted entries will be displayed in the on the show floor at the NEC across specially designed plinths, for the duration of the show. Winners will be announced at the show on the 8th March at 3pm.

There will be a variety of key industry trends on display. There will be range of innovative products on show that reflect the demand for touchless technology and the need for hygienic solutions. Another priority for specifiers is sustainability, ensuring the products they source have a reduced impact on the planet and are fit for the future. The way we live and work has changed, so there is a new focus on homes being able to provide multigenerational living to ensure the home works for everyone.

Being able to get outdoors and take advantage of its benefits has never been more important, this is being reflected in the next trend – bringing the outdoors indoors, with a wide range of products inspired by nature. Design is extremely important and bold style statements are increasingly popular within the home especially using black to create impact and contrast, as seen in brassware, bathroom sanitaryware and kitchen appliances.

It’s hugely important to us that everyone feels comfortable at the show and we have planned carefully to ensure everyone can do business and network in a safe environment. Informa Markets, the organisers of kbb Birmingham, have introduced Informa AllSecure, a series of best practice guidelines and industry standards for all event teams. This includes wider aisles, enhanced cleaning and hygiene, digital badges and online registration. Whether they are exhibitors, visitors, speakers or sponsors, we want all our customers to come to kbb Birmingham to connect, learn and do business, safely and with confidence.

We’ve also created more areas for visitors to eat, drink and rest. There is The Café, sponsored by KBBFocus and the BMA, The Bar, sponsored by Designerati, and the Take 5 Area from Kitchens & Bathrooms News. These areas provide a space away from the bustling show floor for people to relax or a place to network.

I am delighted that we will be back at the NEC soon and that we have the opportunity to bring the industry together, refreshed and re-energised, ready for a fantastic 2022. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the show!
