Tom Pursglove, Member of Parliament for Corby & East Northamptonshire, visited KBB, merchant and construction services provider, Simon Acres Group (SAGL), to find out more about the work it does in recruitment, media and training solutions for businesses nationally. Pursglove, pictured left, who is also the minister of State for Disabled People, Health and Work, spent time with staff from across the group, and was particularly interested to learn how SAGL is encouraging young people into the KBB industry, and supporting their learning, via the apprenticeship route.
SAGL MD Simon Acres, pictured right, said: “We were delighted that Tom took time out of his busy schedule to meet with us. He met our own apprentices, Charlotte Lipski, a digital media apprentice and Level 3 business apprentice Kieran Carroll. As a recruitment provider, we feel strongly about introducing and supporting a new skilled workforce for our industry. We believe that the ‘earn as you learn’ option of apprenticeships is undersold and undervalued, by young people and businesses alike. We shared our plans for our forthcoming Careers Day with Tom and are delighted to have his support.”
Tom Pursglove said: “It was good to talk about the exciting, upcoming Careers Day, which has a particular focus on apprenticeships – helping to spread the word about these important opportunities and growing confidence amongst businesses about taking on young people in particular, and from that, growing the skills required to embark upon what are so often hugely successful careers. Thank you for having me and for sharing these hugely valuable insights."
The 2023 Careers Day, which is set to take place on 22nd March and has more than 100 confirmed attendees already, will be sponsored by Quooker, Der Kreis, MKM and LEAP Apprenticeships. It will be supported by specialist industry software provider Cyncly and held at the Simon Acres Group head office in Wellingborough.
