Belgian brand Novy has secured a Red Dot: Product Design 2023 for the Shelf, part of the Novy Lighting Collection, that features adjustable hands-free gesture-controlled illumination for the kitchen. This follows on from its 2022 Red Dot: Product Design award win for the Phantom Frame Recirculation Island Hood, and is the first dedicated lighting product by Novy to achieve this accolade in the Lighting and Illumination category.
The Shelf is one of three models in the Novy Lighting Collection designed by Studio Jansen & de Bont, a Netherlands-based lighting design company that was acquired by the brand in June 2022. Novy manufactures the Lighting Collection at its factory in Kuurne, Belgium along with all LED lighting components for its extraction appliances together with the brand’s induction and venting hobs.
The minimalist design of the wall-mounted Novy Shelf combines form and function with LED lighting innovation. By purely using hand gestures, the light beam can be located above, or below the shelf, and it can also be directed to a specific area, where the user can choose the width, the position and the level of light intensity. With the Shelf PRO version, the lighting can also change colour to suit the mood and atmosphere in the room. Providing unprecedented hands-free gesture-controlled illumination options for the user, the Novy Shelf is energy efficient and is also made entirely from recyclable materials.
Rien Laverge, sales director, Novy said: “The Red Dot: Product Design logo is internationally recognised as a marque of distinguished design achievement. We are delighted that the intelligent gesture-controlled lighting technology in the Novy Shelf has been recognised for its design, functionality and longevity for the kitchen. We are also very pleased that our Novy Lighting Collection is proving an exciting addition to our appliance offer and that it is already being received so well by many premium kitchen specialists.”
