InSinkErator UK educates on food waste disposers amid upcoming recycling change

In advance of upcoming changes to recycling regulations, InSinkErator UK has launched a new campaign to highlight the important role its products will play in contributing to updated, efficient food waste management. From March 2026, all local authorities will be required to provide food waste caddies as part of the new ‘Simpler Recycling’ regulations in England. This change will mean that food waste needs to be separated from general waste and then also collected separately, with the aim of reducing the amount sent to landfill each year.

The brand’s new educational campaign clarifies the role that food waste disposers can play in modern waste management, showcasing the benefits and process of the products to retailers and kitchen designers as the topic becomes a bigger talking point for consumers across the country. InSinkErator food waste disposers offer a complementary solution which helps to tackle leftovers in a quick, hygienic way – supporting consumers who are advised to use their food caddy or compost inedible food waste. Through printed collateral sent to showrooms, insightful social media activity, and plans to deliver further messaging at KBB 2026, InSinkErator’s new campaign is all around education and communication. The brand explores the 3 practical ways to tackle food waste and looks to start a conversation around the future of food waste management.

Anne Kaarlela said: “InSinkErator is an active campaigner which focusses on the prevention and disposing of any unavoidable food waste responsibly. Our new activity is designed to educate industry professionals about the options their customers have when it comes to managing food waste, so that they’re in the know in preparation for new regulations next year. The business has produced products which get rid of food scraps quickly and hygienically since 1927, and we know that a food waste disposer is a great option for tackling inedible and messy food waste when using a caddy or composting is not practical. Retailers and designers can start to plan this into their thinking when it comes to offering solutions to customers, and food waste disposers can be gamechangers that easily add value to the customer’s kitchen.”

As part of the InSinkErator process, food waste is ground into small particles which are then flushed through a home’s plumbing, not only improving kitchen cleanliness by reducing smells and bacteria but also keeping waste out of sight. From there, particles are transported to a wastewater treatment plant where they can be used to produce valuable biogas and fertiliser.
