Our net carbon savings are equivalent to 135 tonnes of CO², says Bertazzoni UK
The UK and Eire division of Bertazzoni, Italian company renowned for the production of kitchen appliances since 1882, has revealed it achieved estimated net carbon savings in 2024 equivalent to 4,216 train journeys from London to Glasgow.
Accomplished through end-of-life electrical waste recycling activities, the brand says it turned waste into opportunity by responsibly recycling its appliances at Approved Authorised Treatment Facilities (AATFs). From safe removal of hazardous components to AI-powered optical sorting and robotic arms, the advanced processes maximise recovery of valuable resources, delivering high quality recycling and reducing reliance on virgin materials such as steel, plastic, copper and aluminium.
Reported in Bertazzoni UK’s WEEE Recycling Carbon Impact Report 2024, the results were ratified by industry-leading compliance scheme, Ecogenesys. The organisation uses an independently peer-reviewed Carbon Model, certified to ISO14044 standard, the international standard for life cycle assessment, to calculate the environmental benefits of recycling. It measures the CO²e emitted for every tonne of electrical waste recycled using data from the transport and treatment processes. It also calculates the carbon emissions avoided through the recycling outputs.
“Sustainability is embedded in everything we do and Bertazzoni is a proud member of Ecogenesys,” said Maurizio Severgnini, CEO at Bertazzoni UK, pictured. “Almost all (98 per cent) of the materials used in our products are recyclable and soon all packaging from our factory will have no polystyrene. Working with Ecogenesys, we ensure that all the old appliances we collect from our customers are recycled in a sustainable manner, contributing to the circular economy and a better future for us all.”
