Duravit has revealed its Hornberg site has made the jump from silver to gold in just one year in the EcoVadis assessment, placing the company among the top 5% of organisations rated around the world. The EcoVadis award is a globally recognised standard for sustainability and rates companies in the areas of environment, labour & human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. The company says its gold status confirms that it not only defines ambitious targets, but is also consistent in implementing them.

“The leap from silver to gold in the EcoVadis assessment shows clearly that sustainability is an integral component of our actions and shapes our decisions. The award confirms that we’re not simply treading water and defining targets, but we’re forging ahead to implement them,” said Duravit’s CEO Stephan Tahy.

“The gold medal isn’t an end point, but another step on the journey of continual improvement. The aim is to significantly reduce the carbon emissions across all scopes by 2030. With this in mind, we’re currently analysing our entire supply chain and working with our partners to develop measures to reduce the emissions in scope 3 in particular – the indirect emissions that arise along the entire value creation chain,” added Marcus Staudt, HSE manager at Duravit.

Duravit says it also prides itself on ensuring that its measures go beyond the minimum statutory requirements on a global level. These include a climate-neutral firing process, the implementation of the 'local for local' principle with regional production along with investments in innovative technologies – all of which is the case with the recently opened ceramic plant in Canada

The EcoVadis gold medal is a welcome addition to existing sustainability initiatives and certifications that represent transparency and verified standards.
