New research from bespoke kitchen brand Tom Howley has revealed a rising demand for contemporary kitchens – signalling changing tastes in the high-end kitchen market.

The independent study, commissioned by Tom Howley, highlights that while traditional Shaker kitchens remain central to the brand’s DNA, one in 5 respondents now actively prefer sleek, contemporary kitchens over classic styles. This growing segment reflects a broader change in how homeowners view luxury living, prioritising clean lines, understated elegance, and architectural simplicity.

Digging deeper into the data, the research reveals that 82% of those drawn to contemporary kitchens favour modern or eclectic interior schemes, demonstrating a strong alignment between progressive kitchen design and wider home aesthetics.

Interestingly, 61% of these consumers live in 20th-century properties, challenging the perception that contemporary kitchens are reserved solely for new-build homes. Instead, homeowners are increasingly blending modern design with characterful architecture to create striking contrasts. Perhaps most tellingly, 73% of respondents believe that a luxury kitchen brand should offer contemporary kitchens alongside more traditional collections, underlining growing expectations for design versatility within the premium sector.

The findings reaffirm Tom Howley’s commitment to evolving alongside its customers, seamlessly blending craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail with a refined contemporary aesthetic that responds to the needs of modern living.

In response, Tom Howley has recently introduced Malone, a striking new collection and the brand’s first dedicated step into contemporary kitchen design. Defined by clean lines, minimalist detailing, and architectural precision, Malone represents a confident new chapter for the trusted British name in bespoke cabinetry, expanding its design portfolio while staying true to its heritage of exceptional craftsmanship.
