The Danesmoor Group, the company behind KBB distributor PWS, has announced its charity of the year for 2023 is Dementia UK. Following on from a successful ‘Yorkshire Three Peaks’ challenge, in which the company raised over £11,000 for Dementia UK in 2022, the group has pledged further support for the charity to grow the number of specialist dementia nurses across the UK through an Italian coast-to-coast cycle challenge. The ride, which will take place in May, will see eight riders from across the group take on a gruelling six-day mission through the rolling Tuscan hills from Rimini to Pisa in a bid to raise £120,000 for Dementia UK.
“The last few years have seen the UK go through some of the most challenging and unforeseen economic turbulence, affecting everyone, especially charities. That’s why I wanted to do something to raise vital funds for Dementia UK, a charity that provides specialist support and advice to families who are affected by dementia whilst providing eight riders with an unforgettable opportunity,” said Mark Stephenson, pictured, CEO of Danesmoor Group. "Over one million people across the UK are expected to be living with dementia by 2025. But while this heartbreaking condition has no cure, support is available through Dementia UK’s specialist Admiral Nurses, who work directly with families affected by all forms of dementia, every single day of the week.”
The ride will not be the first challenge Danesmoor Group’s CEO has been at the helm of – back in 2016, Mark Stephenson was a leading fundraiser for Help for Heroes, raising an incredible £314,000 for the charity by cycling 500km across South Africa. The money raised went towards funding for three additional psychological wellbeing advisors, helping wounded, injured and sick service personnel, veterans and their families.
The company has started internal recruitment for the eight riders, who will be announced in the new year. For now, if you would like to show your support, The Danesmoor Group has set up a dedicated JustGiving page HERE.
