Wooden panelling trend has reached bathrooms, says Ripples designer

Wooden panelling has been big in the interiors world for some time but the trend is now moving into bathrooms as designers are waking up to its possibilities, says Leanne Robey, senior designer from Ripples Newbury. In addition, new waterproof options specifically designed for use in the bathroom not only make wooden panelling a practical choice, but also easy to install.

Available in a range of tongue and groove finishes, panelling can be installed using screws or even adhesive, for a simple yet highly impactful effect, says Robey. All the installer has to do is measure the space, calculate how many panels are needed, cut the panels to size and attach to the wall using grab adhesive. An end cap or top trim can then be added to finesse to the finish.

She concludes that opting for panelling is a great way of adding interest to a bathroom space, without having to commit to a patterned tile which can easily date and is difficult and often costly to change, and with options from natural oak to walnut and black in an array of styles, there’s something to suit every scheme.
