Roman invests in four renewable energy furnaces at manufacturing site

Newton Aycliffe-based shower designer and manufacturer, Roman, has furthered its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility with the installation of 4 state-of-the-art renewable energy furnaces, which the company says will revolutionise the way Roman handles waste while also contributing to a greener and more sustainable future. These have been installed across Roman’s 400,000sq ft manufacturing site in County Durham.

Roman’s new furnace technology is designed to remove waste wood efficiently, converting what would otherwise be discarded material into a valuable energy source – therefore not only reducing an environmental impact, but also cutting down reliance on non-renewable energy sources and dramatically reducing Roman’s carbon footprint. Roman says this marks a significant step forward in its journey towards a zero-waste future. The wood comes from nearly 300 tons of waste wood, which is generated annually from supplier packaging. The hot air is ducted throughout Roman’s complex to essentially eliminate traditional heating.

This further investment in renewable energy is just one part of Roman’s broader sustainability initiative. In addition to the 4 furnaces, Roman has upgraded its entire facility with energy-efficient LED lighting. LED lights consume significantly less energy than traditional lighting systems, offering an eco-friendly alternative that reduces electricity consumption.

These advancements are closely aligned with Roman’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which guide businesses to continually strive for economic growth that is inclusive, environmentally responsible, and beneficial to society. As a member of the UN SDG initiative, Roman is committed to advancing several key goals, including affordable and clean energy (SDG 7); responsible consumption and production (SDG 12); and climate action (SDG 13).
