Specialist business advisory firm FRP has been engaged by Mereway Bathrooms to assist the directors in placing the company into creditors’ voluntary liquidation.
Following an unsuccessful attempt to secure a purchaser for the business and assets, Mereway Bathrooms ceased trading on 7th November 2024. All 50 employees were made redundant and are now being supported by FRP’s team to file claims with the Redundancy Payments Service.
Based in Birmingham, the company was one of the UK’s largest independent bathroom furniture manufacturers, providing a wide range of high-quality bathroom products. Its sister company Mereway Kitchens, which was run as a separate entity, closed its doors at the start of this year after an attempt had been made to save it.
According to a statement from FRP, Mereway Bathrooms faced challenging trading conditions due to a downturn in the market, which resulted in cash flow difficulties that ultimately impacted its ability to continue trading. The statement added that 'the same trading conditions have been experienced by the company’s competitors, with a number of recent insolvencies in the sector'.
The proposed liquidators, Ben Jones and Raj Mittal of FRP, are working with the directors to facilitate an orderly wind down. All known creditors have been notified of the proposed liquidation and the decision date for the liquidation has been convened for 20th November 2024.
