Trump signs order to 'make America's showers great again'

The White House has announced that Donald Trump is going to "make America's showers great again" by easing rules restricting water flow.

The US president directed the Energy Department to rescind a rule begun by Barack Obama and brought back by Joe Biden that limited the flow from each showerhead on the market to 2.5 gallons (9.5 litres) of water per minute.

This served "a radical green agenda that made life worse for Americans", the White House said, as Trump criticised the "ridiculous" amount of time he says it takes to wet his "beautiful" hair in the shower.

"In my case, I like to take a nice shower, take care of my beautiful hair," he said during a signing ceremony in the Oval Office, adding that he has to stand under the showerhead for 15 minutes under the current regulations.

A fact sheet released by the White House entitled 'President Donald J Trump makes America's showers great again', said this order is 'rolling back overregulation' and 'frees Americans from excessive regulations that turned a basic household item into a bureaucratic nightmare. No longer will showerheads be weak and worthless'.

The fact sheet added that 'It’s not just showers – the Biden Administration aggressively targeted everyday appliances like gas stoves, water heaters, washing machines, furnaces, dishwashers, and more'.

It concluded: 'By restoring shower freedom, President Trump is following through on his commitment to dismantle unnecessary regulations and put Americans first.'
