Wren Kitchens says it has ceased all operations in the United States in a surprise move that is set to result in multiple job losses across its retail and manufacturing divisions.

In a statement, the company said that it had made the decision to withdraw from the US market in order to focus investment on accelerating its core UK business, which is experiencing double-digit growth in spite of the current challenging market conditions.

“The US business, a separate legal entity from the UK which is unaffected by this decision, was growing from a small base – accounting for around 4% of our Group’s overall turnover. Its future success however relied on expanding our US retail estate. Despite our best efforts sadly we could not reach agreeable terms that would enable us to do that.

“We have therefore reluctantly taken the decision to appoint a Trustee who will manage our exit from the US market, in line with US regulations. We regret the impact this decision will have on our US colleagues – who we have been informed of our decision – and our customers and thank both of them for their support. We will now focus on growing our UK business with 15 new showrooms and the launch of new product categories already planned for this year.”

A message on the US company website simply says: "We regret to inform you that our showrooms and studios are now closed".
