See inside DeVOL Kitchens' brand-new West Hollywood showroom
As kitchen furniture specialist DeVOL opens the doors to its new showroom on La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles, we take a tour to see how they decided to showcase the British brand's story.
The design of DeVOL's LA showroom all began with the front window – a little glimpse into a world of handmade furniture for all the passersby on La Cienega Boulevard and the people of Los Angeles. The idea was to create spaces that show how versatile, beautiful and easy on the eye DeVOL furniture is and the window was a key moment to tell a story in just a few pieces.

Shipped across the ocean, these English cupboards instantly look at home. This very simple display shows a space that is quintessentially English, with its terracotta tiled floor, Dairy Table, open cupboards and organised plate racks.

THE HEIRLOOM KITCHEN
Stepping down from the terracotta floored window display, the visitor enters a spacious, airy room with a soft and delicate palette of colours. This big space, and the design of this kitchen, is reminiscent of under-the-stairs kitchens in English stately homes. The idea was to showcase the function and practicality of the generously proportioned cupboards without creating an austere feeling, so the soft, barely there, plaster-coloured walls were key to this space working.

The designers added some functional bits – the generously applied Cream Subway Tiles and the janitor's sink area, but then added a little glamour too. A copper canopy, a brass sink, a chandelier and a couple of carefully considered pieces of art. The room is grounded by a rich, dark wooden floor that gives gravitas and makes everything feel authentic. This kitchen is a mix of Classic English furniture, Heirloom pieces and DeVOL accessories, the perfect choices for a traditional looking room with just a little quirkiness in the small details.
THE HABERDASHER'S BAR
This room is a world away from the light and bright showroom entrance. A moody Haberdasher’s bar sits pride of place, with the showstopper – a polished brass worktop. This time the designers chose DeVOL's 'Bobbin Black' for a Haberdasher's showroom display and it's already captured everyone's attention on social media.

Grasscloth wallpaper by Watts 1874 lends an exotic backdrop and the verdant tones are reflected on the opposite wall by Emerald Green London Tiles. DeVOL's ceramicists hand roll, glaze and fire each and every tile and they have become one of the company's most iconic DeVOL accessories and are instantly recognisable in any project.

THE POWDER ROOM
DeVOL recently made its first, well received, foray into bathroom design, so here, peeking through a pair of vintage French doors is the powder room. A little moodiness from the bar outside flows in, with a full wall of DeVOL's Sepia Lace Market Tiles, but the floaty cafe curtains and quirky pendants make this room feel distinct, nostalgic and a little bohemian.

The Twin Victorian Washstand has grand proportions, but feels elegant and airy. Each vanity is crafted by hand in DeVOL's workshops and can be customised to add a creamy Carrara marble worktop, aged brass taps, porcelain sinks, and hanging rails for towels.
THE SHAKER KITCHEN AND WALK-IN PANTRY
To celebrate the opening of the West Coast showroom, DeVOL decided to add 3 new colours to its paint range, all of which can be sees in the Shaker kitchen. The tongue-and-groove panelling and perimeter cupboards are painted in 'Folgate Green', an earthy olive bronze, the prep table is 'Quaker Cream', a rich clotted cream shade, and the bench seat is 'Minton Buff', a dusty green yellow.

When it comes to kitchen islands, the company says it prefers something light and airy, like a prep table. There's plenty of storage in 6 deep drawers, and the Boho Handles add just a touch of playful quirkiness.

Just around the corner from the main run and behind a glazed screen, they created a walk-in pantry. The aesthetic is pared back. It's a room that looks beautiful but is designed to work hard and be functional every day for a busy family.
A SEBASTIAN COX AND HABERDASHER'S KITCHEN
The final display in the LA showroom is a beachy mix of the company's Haberdasher’s and Sebastian Cox cupboards. They're unpainted, which means visitors can see and feel the grain of the wood, and this lends a relaxed and uncontrived feeling to the display. The aim was for customers to step inside this room and feel immediately calm, so they chose earthy, organic tones and textures that mirrored the beachy landscape just down the road from the showroom.
