How pull-out taps are an increasingly popular choice with UK homeowners
Pull-out taps with flexible hoses and spouts, powerful multifunction spray patterns and designer silhouettes are an easy upgrade to achieve a premium look – Sally Smith finds out more.
Pull-out taps were once only seen in a professional environment but are now fast becoming a standard expectation in mainstream kitchens. Designed with slimmer profiles, concealed hoses and improved docking stations, the latest products mean customers will be spoilt for choice.

"Homeowners are now looking for taps that not only complement a contemporary aesthetic but also make everyday tasks easier and more efficient. Features such as pull-out sprays, multifunction spray patterns and streamlined silhouettes are now expected across the market, combining practicality with a more premium look and feel," explains Elina Enqvist-Twomey, GROHE product leader, flushing systems, fixtures and kitchen, UK. "Practical features such as pull-out spray heads, 140° swivel spouts and magnetic docking make everyday kitchen tasks like rinsing, filling and cleaning more flexible and efficient. Many pull-out models also incorporate aerator spray functions, which help reduce water consumption whilst still delivering effective cleaning performance," she adds.

1810/SCHOCK offers premium tap solutions that work for the consumer as well as kitchen installers and designers. "We understand the importance of developing premium kitchen products that not only elevate the end-user experience, but also make life easier for installers and kitchen professionals. By further expanding our QFit Flex tap range in 2026, the pull-out taps are installed from above the worktop with a self-contained retractable hose, eliminating the need for unsightly weights beneath the sink," says Bernhard van Ommen, MD at 1810/SCHOCK.
Pull-out taps are increasingly becoming a standard expectation in many kitchen schemes, rather than a premium upgrade offering consumers a multifunctional product that makes daily tasks more efficient.

Dan Biddle, product manager at Abode, says: "Pull-Out taps need to compete on choice, aesthetics, user benefits, and value. It’s vital to encourage customers to touch, feel, and see what they’re about to buy. This is what gives retailers the edge over online shopping experiences. These professional style mixer taps with powerful spray functionality are a popular choice for consumers and are now not limited to the contemporary kitchen space with a range of models that cater to classic and industrial-style design schemes. Our Pull-Out tap ranges include a flexible hose, detachable pull around spout or optional flow restrictors that limit water flow to just 5l/m."
Pull-out taps typically sit within the luxury category, displaying a variety of designs from several different brands in showrooms will help encourage customers to understand the benefits of an upgrade and drive sales.

"Supporting retailers is extremely important to us," adds Amie Gee, marketing manager at Franke UK. "As taps become increasingly feature-led and design-focused, ensuring retailers fully understand the practical benefits, finishes and technologies available is essential in helping consumers make informed purchasing decisions. Consumers are looking for taps that not only perform well but also contribute to the overall kitchen scheme. We’ve seen a high demand for contemporary finishes – matt black, stainless steel and warm metallic tones, alongside minimalist silhouettes and professional-style designs inspired by commercial kitchens," she adds.

Tamsin Mills, brand communications manager at BLANCO, agrees. "From a design perspective, pull-out taps have become much more refined and integrated across the wider kitchen tap market. The spray head now typically docks seamlessly into the spout, maintaining a clean, minimal appearance when not in use. Slimmer profiles, concealed hoses and improved magnetic or weighted docking systems ensure that functionality does not compromise aesthetics," she explains.
Pull-out taps can play an important role in water efficiency in the kitchen. By allowing people to direct water precisely where it is needed, it reduces unnecessary splashing and overspray outside the sink area. Mills adds: "Many pull-out mixer taps include dual-spray modes, typically switching between a standard aerated flow and a more powerful rinse setting. This means water use can be matched more closely to the task, using gentler flow for filling and controlled rinsing, and a more concentrated spray only when needed."
Pull-out taps tend to work particularly well with larger single bowl or more contemporary workstation setups. Their appeal lies in providing greater reach and manoeuvrability around the sink.

Daniel Boulton, sales & procurement director at Clearwater, has seen demand for pull-out taps grow over recent years. "Customers are increasingly looking for kitchens that are not only stylish, but genuinely easier to use day to day. The added reach and control that pull-out taps offer especially with larger, Belfast-style sinks are the ideal solution for busy family kitchens where the sink area is in constant use. We also offer a rare range of low pressure pull-out taps allowing gravity fed and low pressure systems the opportunity to benefit from a pull-out design."

Michael Sammon, MD at Wodar, adds: "Pull-out taps now feel much more at home in residential kitchens, with cleaner silhouettes and stronger finish options. Dual-spray functions and flow regulators are not especially glamorous features, but they matter because they allow the tap to perform well without encouraging waste, which is exactly the kind of quiet practical improvement customers increasingly expect."
The latest pull-out tap ranges offer a variety of contemporary finishes that can be coordinated with the rest of the sink space making it a design feature rather than just a practical upgrade.
